4G Service Rollout: BSNL plans to deliver its 4G services across India in August 2024. This implementation will rely fully on indigenous technology, per the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” policy. The pilot phase produced promising results, with 40-45 Mbps peak speeds. BSNL has already launched 4G services in Punjab, with approximately 800,000 users using the network.
5G Readiness: BSNL also prepares for future 5G services by erecting 112,000 towers nationwide. TCS, Tejas Networks, and ITI have been granted contracts totaling ₹19,000 crore to install a 4G network that can be expanded to 5G in the future.
Government Support: The Indian government has approved a $11 billion rehabilitation plan for BSNL. This package aims to revitalize the state-owned telecom business with measures for strengthening its infrastructure and increasing its services.
